RARE SCRIMSHAW PORPOISE SNOUT, SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS. Circa 1803. This unique example, fashioned as a pair of tongs, wrapped at one end with a tarred woven fastener, decorated on one side with displayed eagle on anchor, a cross flanked by palm trees and a fully rigged sailing ship. Opposing side with two ships under sail, a potted flowering bush and “1803 SALEM”. SIZE: 14-1/2″ l. CONDITION: Very good overall, missing several teeth. 9-95067 (3,000-5,000)
