RARE LEAPING STAG WEATHERVANE, PROBABLY HARRIS & COMPANY, BOSTON. Last quarter 19th century. With good verdegris surface, this molded copper example with zinc ears and antlers depicting a full-bodied stag leaping over fallen tree and shrub. Mounted on a rod. Literature: For closely related example, see Steve Miller’s The Art of the Weathervane, pp. 50-51. SIZE: 26″ h. x 32″ l. PROVENANCE: From the Addie Dunham estate, Quincy, Massachusetts. CONDITION: Old restoration proper right rear leg. Proper right antler in need of re-attachment to head with restoration. Filled bullet hole right side body and rocky plinth. Some seam separation.
