WINCHESTER HIGH WALL SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 38 Express. SN 70144. Standard grade rifle with 26” #4 oct bbl, silver bead front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. The wood is straight grain American walnut with black insert schnable tip forearm and straight stock with crescent buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle as found and indicating shipment January 17, 1895. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 85-90% thin original blue with several spots of deep rust pitting on the bottom of the bbl toward the muzzle. Receiver retains about 50% thin, faded case colors with the balance turned silver. Lever and buttplate are a silver speckled brown patina. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore and scattered light pitting primarily in front of the chamber. 4-52912 JR408 (3,500-5,000)
