MARTIALLY MARKED SMITH & WESSON #3 SCHOFIELD 2ND MODEL REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Schofield. Blued finish, 7” keyhole ribbed bbl, 2-pc smooth walnut grips. Bottom of the butt is stamped with a “US” and the various parts have small “E” and “P” proof marks. Grips, which are not numbered to this revolver, have the “JRJr” cartouche and the date 1876 on the left side and a “CW” cartouche on the right. SN 6651. CONDITION: About good. Traces of finish only remain in the very sheltered areas with the balance a light gray patina. Latch block screws are battered. Grips are numbered 5789 show moderate to heavy wear but the cartouches are legible. Bore is strong and bright with fine pitting and a couple of spots with deeper pitting. Hammer will not engage the safety notch and the cylinder stop does not fully engage, otherwise mechanics are fine. 4-48031 JR127 (Anderson Collection) (1,750-2,750)
