MARTIALLY MARKED SMITH & WESSON #3 SCHOFIELD 2ND MODEL REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Schofield. Blued finish, 7” keyhole ribbed bbl, usual marking on either side of the ejector housing, smooth 2-pc walnut grips with “JRJr” and “CW” cartouches on the grips and with the date 1876 on the left grip. There are small inspector stamps over various parts of the revolver. SN 5191. CONDITION: Fine. Frame retains 65-70% thin original blue, cylinder about 30% primarily in the flutes, bbl retains thin blue in the gullets. Grips are very fine with only a chip or two and retain about 75% original varnish with good cartouches. Front sight is possibly a replacement. Serial number on the butt appears to have been filed and re-stamped with artificial aging. The visible numbers are all matching. A couple of battered screws.
