IMPORTANT PIERCED LAMINATED ROSEWOOD CLOSED ARMCHAIR ATTRIBUTED TO JOHN HENRY BELTER NYC. Upholstered armchair has solid laminated back and sides. Pierced and carved border to back includes grapes, acorns, leaves, flowers, and roses. C-scroll and scroll decoration. Carved scrolled front arms have carving down to small scrolled foot including rose and grape decoration. Shaped front crest with vine and flower decoration. Set on brass caster feet. Top crest appears to be attached to C-scroll; wood bulges out from level of other lamination. Similar to the pattern of the three legged corner chair on page 100 of the “American Furniture of the 19th Century” 1840-1880 by Richard and Eileen Dubrow. SIZE: 46 1/2″h x 25 1/2″w. CONDITION: Loss to edge of one rose, loss to outside veneer layer in areas of the back, some other repairs. 14-129 (4,000-8,000)
