ATTRIBUTED TO ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN (American, 1850-1921) PORTRAIT OF THE STEAMSHIP “HUDSON”. Oil on canvas shows the one stack two-mast steamer “Hudson” sailing right to left under gray cloud sky in blue white capped waves. Five men are seen aboard. The name is on the bow and there is a red diamond with an “C” on the stack. Signed lower right very lightly “A. Jacobsen” and what appears to be “1916”. The Checklist of Jacobsen’s work indicates that there were nine paintings and sketches known, none of this size. The Hudson was a screw steamer from 1874-1916 built in Wilmington, Delaware of the Cromwell Line, homeport being New York. Housed in a fine reproduction gesso decorated carved frame. SIZE: 14” x 22”.
