*RARE SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER DELUXE LOW WALL RIFLE. Cal. 25-20 SS. SN 85640. Very scarce little rifle with 28” #1 oct to rnd bbl with globe front sight, a blank in the rear seat and a Lyman tang sight that is for a Marlin or Stevens rifle and is attached with only one screw. It has nicely figured American walnut wood with black insert schnable tipped checkered forearm and checkered straight stock with nickeled Swiss buttplate. The stock appears to have more drop than usual. It is also fitted with a checkered single set trigger. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle and only confirms the caliber and bbl and states that it was shipped with a plain trigger on April 11, 1900. However, it appears that this rifle has been together for a very long time. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 95-96% strong original blue and the receiver about 95% strong original blue with some light surface freckling and striation marks on both sides. Lever retains 50-60% dull case colors and the hammer about 75%. Buttplate retains 75-80% milky original nickel plating. Stock has a grain check on the left side at the toe & a replaced chip in the right wrist, otherwise the wood is sound and the forearm retains 75-80% original varnish and the stock about 95% original varnish.
