SCARCE WINCHESTER DELUXE HIGH WALL TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 38-55. SN 61058. Very scarce rifle with 30” #3 oct to rnd bbl, mounted with a 33” Malcolm scope. It has about 3-4X checkered fiddle-back American walnut wood with black insert schnable tip forearm and black insert pistol grip buttstock with heavy Dutch cheek piece and Schuetzen style buttplate with long prongs. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle as having been originally shipped with mid-range vernier and wind gauge sights, no rear seat and a Swiss buttplate, otherwise is identical. The buttplate, while different from the letter, appears original to this rifle. It indicates it was shipped July 12, 1893. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl retains 96-98% strong bright original factory blue. Scope tube retains about 95% dull original blue, missing the small attachment near the front end, optics appear fine but dirty. Receiver retains most of its original factory case colors, brilliant on the left side, slightly faded on the right side and fading on the tangs. Lever is dark and the buttplate is a dark metal color. Stock has a hairline back of the top tang, otherwise the wood is sound and retains most of its original bright factory piano finish with usual light nicks and scratches. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-52534 JR279 (6,000-10,000)
