IMPORTANT DARK BLUE STAFFORDSHIRE HISTORICAL BELLEVILLE SOUP TUREEN WITH COVER, UNDERTRAY AND LADLE. Extremely rare, from Enoch Wood’s “Views of the Hudson” series. Soup tureen cover depicts New York Bay and the Highlands at West Point on the Hudson River, within a shell border (see American Historical Views on Staffordshire China by Ellouise Baker Larsen, 3rd Edition, p. 19, fig. 30). The tureen, “Belleville on the Passaic River”, with shell border and foot rim (see American Historical Views on Staffordshire China by Ellouise Baker Larsen, 3rd Edition, p. 13, plate 14). The undertray marked “Hope Mill, Catskill, State of New York”, with shell border, title in underglaze blue (see American Historical Views on Staffordshire China by Ellouise Baker Larsen, 3rd Edition, p. 15, fig. 17). Ladle with leafy bowl, eagle’s head finial. This lot is accompanied by a letter to the owner saying that she owned “the Belleville soup tureen from the Frances Cross Collection”.
