*SCARCE WINCHESTER DELUXE HIGH WALL SCHUETZEN RIFLE. Cal. 38-55. SN 81654. Wonderful Schuetzen rifle with 34” #3 oct bbl. Windage spirit level front sight, slot blank in the rear seat and a mid-range vernier tang sight. It is fitted with spur lever and wide spaced Schuetzen dbl set triggers. It has very nicely figured American walnut wood with checkered black insert schnable tip forearm and checkered capped pistol grip Schuetzen buttstock with heavy Dutch cheek piece and nickeled long tang Schuetzen buttplate. The stock has a slight perch belly and roach back. The lever has a tiny amount of engraving on each side and on the face at the joint. It is also fitted with original adjustable palm rest. There is an engraved pin through the wrist. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle and stating that it was ordered without a rear sight and shipped on July 17, 1899. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 88-90% dull original blue turning plum. It has moderate muzzle and edge wear and a couple of dings about mid-point. Receiver retains 85-90% faded case colors with the balance turned silver. Wood with its pin through the wrist and a fine hairline on the left side, is otherwise sound with the forearm retaining about 75% strong original varnish and the buttstock 92-94% strong original varnish with usual handling and use marks, dings and scratches.
