OUTSTANDING OIL ON CANVAS “SEPTEMBER SKIES, GLOUCESTER” BY CHARLES PAUL GRUPPE (1860-1940). Well-executed panoramic scene of Gloucester Harbor showing the town, its wharves, and boats. White billowy clouds and blue sky and reflection of boats and buildings in calm water. Probably done prior to 1910-building on left had cupola added after that. Signed lower left “Chas. P. Gruppe”. Housed in a fine gilt carved replacement frame. Title on back stretcher. Ref. Identical painting in small size, sold by James D. Julia, Inc. 1/13/2001, lot 103. SIZE: 18″ h x 26″ w.
