*WINCHESTER MODEL 1895 SPECIAL ORDER CARBINE. Cal. 30 US (30-40). SN 44761. Standard grade carbine with 22” rnd bbl, ivory bead pedestal front sight, Lyman 6A rear sight with front leaf missing and a Lyman 21 receiver sight. It is made without saddle ring or hand guard and has factory sling eyes. The wood is straight grain American walnut with grasping groove forearm, straight stock with smooth steel shotgun buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this carbine, as found, and indicating that it had “screw eyes” and “no sling ring etc.” and was shipped September 21, 1904. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 95-96% strong bright original blue with a few scratches and light muzzle wear. Receiver retains about 95% bright original blue with some light surface spotting and pinpoint rust on the right side with light scratches and edge wear and a few spots of pinpoint rust on the left side. Lever retains about 90% blue and the hammer most of its original bright case colors. Wood is sound with normal handling and use marks with a series of small scratches on the forearm and retains about 95% original varnish.
