RARE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1795 FLINTLOCK MUSKET. NSN. Cal. 69. 44-5/8”, rnd bbl marked with standard “P / Eagle head / V” upper left at the rear with an “M” above, indicating Maryland ownership. There are also two unreadable stamps slightly forward of these marks. The buttplate is dated 1800. Faint traces of inspector cartouche on the left flat of the stock. “WF” is stamped on the trigger plate and “MARYLAND” is branded on the stock in front of the trigger guard. The ramrod has been altered at the base. Marked “SPRINGFIELD” in a downward arc at the rear of the lockplate. American eagle / “U.S.” in front of the hammer. The inside of the lockplate has “P” below the pan with other letters at the rear of the plate, but no assembly marks on the internal parts. Faceted pan appears to be orig, although the touch hole in the bbl has been bushed. CONDITION: Very good. Gray patina overall with light pitting. Short cracks at the rear lockplate screw and rear bbl band. Initials carved in the right cheek of the butt. A repair above the tail of the lock, and the stock has been refinished in this area.
