RARE AND OUTSTANDING MAHOGANY CASED TALL CLOCK BY JACOB MAUS, TRENTON. Jacob Maus worked in Philadelphia and Trenton, NJ between 1780-1790. The brass dial with hour, minute and second hands. An oval name plaque says “Jacob Maus Trenton”. Below which is a square hole for date dial. . Back dial with full moon, brass works with bells strike. Weights, key, pendulum and winding key present. The refinished case has tombstone door with molded edge and shaped brass escutcheon plate. The waist having fluted quarter columns, the base with similar columns and central flame grain shaped panel. All supported by four ogee feet. The hood with swan neck pediment with carved floral rosettes, two flame carved side finials with larger central pierce carved finial. Block and turned columns on front of hood, small shaped side windows and quarter columns to back edge. PROVENANCE: From the Bob & Jackie Stewart Collection. SIZE: 99” h x 19-1/2” at widest x 10-1/2” d. CONDITION: Some restoration to base, top including small finials and spliced piece to backboard. Very good. 9-25760 (15,000-30,000)
