WILLIAM ALLEN ROGERS (American, 1854-1931) “IN THE WATERMELON PATCH”. Watercolor illustration depicting three black boys at the edge of a corn field eating recently harvested watermelon. Signed bottom left “WA Rogers”. Titled on reverse. Also “St. Nicholas A1840”. This may be in reference as to where the illustration was used. Housed in a molded oak frame with inner white and gold matte with textured inner green matte. Rogers was born in Springfield, Ohio and worked much of his life for Harper’s Weekly and was a member of the Century Association and the Society of Illustrators. SIGHT SIZE: 8” x 11-1/2”.
