SAMUEL FINLEY MORSE BADGER (American, 1873-1919) SHIP PORTRAIT OF THE JOEL COOK. Oil on canvas portrait of a three-mast black hull ship. Name emblazoned on the bow and stern, red deck has three crew members. Sails are full and there is a U.S. flag off back mast and other flags on other masts. Signed lower left “SFM Badger”. Housed in its original gesso decorated gold frame. A very early work by this artist. There is a date put in the sky of 1882 which we believe is a later edition. SIZE: 18” x 30”. CONDITION: As found with large tears, dirty canvas and craquelure. 9-71331 (4,000-6,000)
