WINCHESTER MODEL 1892 DELUXE SHORT RIFLE. Cal. 38 WCF (38-40). SN 109259. Fine deluxe rifle with 22” rnd bbl, full magazine, gold washed Beach’s combination front sight, Lyman folding rear sight and a Lyman tang sight. The wood is 2 to 3X checkered American walnut, “H” style checkering with pistol grip stock and crescent buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle, as found, and indicating shipment August 21, 1900. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 92-94% original blue, thin over the chamber area. Magazine tube and forend cap retain 94-96% strong bright original blue. Receiver retains 85-90% thin original blue with striation lines down both sides. Wood is sound showing moderate wear with usual light to moderate handling and use nicks and scratches with a ding and several small bruises on the wrist and oil stain on the forearm. Otherwise the forearm retains about 60% original piano varnish finish and the butt stock 85-90%. Lever and hammer retain traces of bright case colors with the balance turned silver.
