SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1812 FLINTLOCK MUSKET. Cal. 73. NSN. 42” rnd bbl. Marked “US / eagle / SPRINGFIELD” in downward arc in front of cock, “1816” horizontally at rear of lockplate. Dated 1816 on tang of buttplate. Standard “US” and proof marks on left rear of bbl. This is a Type 3 with band springs forward of bands. Cheek of stock is dished. Swivels are fastened by screws. “,” assembly marks, internal and external. Mainspring is a replacement. CONDITION: Smooth brown patina overall, with light pitting at rear of bbl.
