SMITH & WESSON NEW MODEL #3 LARGE FRAME REVOLVER W/SHOULDER STOCK. Cal. 32-44. Blued finish, 6-1/2” keyhole ribbed bbl, 2-line address, modified pinned steel front sight and 2-pc monogrammed red mottled hard rubber grips. Frame and cylinder are from a carbine. Grip frame is factory cut for shoulder stock with a hole at the top of the backstrap and a 7/8” long slot in the butt. Accompanied by a detachable shoulder stock with S&W logo hard rubber buttplate. Stock iron has a tapped hole in the top for a tang sight, obviously this was a carbine buttstock. Hole has the original plug screw. Originally shipped January 26, 1882 with 20” bbl. SN 426. CONDITION: Good to very good, as noted. Cylinder is numbered to the frame, bbl unnumbered and the latch has the number 20401. Overall, it retains about 30% original blue bright in the sheltered areas, gray-brown patina elsewhere. Grips show moderate to heavy wear and the left one has a crack at the top. Strong dark bore with light pitting, good mechanics. Stock is fine with the metal and wood retaining most of a fine restored finish. Buttplate has 3/16” chip in the toe. 4-48021 JR101 (Anderson Collection) (1,250-2,500)
