BALTHAZAR DENNER (German, 1685-1749) “PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN IN A BLUE COAT”. Fine oil on canvas 3/4 length portrait of a gentleman with white hair, blue fancy coat with brass buttons, fancy vest with white shirt. Pleasing facial features. Signed lower left “Denner 1742”. Housed in a fine carved wood and gesso gilt decorated frame. Old “Chrisite Mason & Woods” label affixed to back of canvas. Also, another cutout label from catalog No. 144 with title. Sale was Saturday, June 11, 1887. The Collection of Chevalier A. A. De Cosson. Possibly a portrait of a young Louie XV. SIZE: 30” x 25”. CONDITION: Old relining. Some restoration with inpainting.
