WELLS FARGO MARKED HENRY ARMS DOUBLE BARREL HAMMER SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. Belgian made, Damascus double barrel shotgun with the barrels cut to 22” with a single brass bead. It has double lump with single bite and dolls head rib extension. It has checkered splinter forearm and semi-pistol grip stock with checkered hard rubber butt plate. The right side of the butt stock is deeply branded, in 3/8” letters, “W. F. & CO. / 5”. These numbers appear to be period to the gun as there is good edge wear and oil staining all around. For purposes of authentication, the consignor has enclosed photographs of a Remington shotgun along with Wells Fargo receipts dated 1912 for this shotgun which has butt stock markings identical to this shotgun. The information also states that the Henry Gun Company was a hardware company trade name. SN 58778. CONDITION: Good to very good. The barrels retain an even gray/brown patina and the receiver traces of case colors in sheltered areas, being mostly a silver/brown patina. The stock has a crack below the right lock plate otherwise the wood is sound and shows heavy wear with a fine hand rubbed patina. The butt stock is missing about 1” of the toe of the butt plate and a long sliver from the toe of the stock. Strong bores with moderate pitting. The left hammer is cracked, otherwise the mechanics are fine. 4-48928 JR721 (1,500-2,500)
