Correction: Should indicate that this painting has been relined. ATTRIBUTED TO GUSTAVE COURBET (American, 1819-1877) ADMIRING FROM A DISTANCE. Oil on canvas scene shows a mother and daughter walking along a path while a man hides behind a tree spying on the oncoming girls. A house is seen in the distance under blue and white sky and scattered trees on the green grass field. Signed “Courbet” lower left. Housed in a ebonized frame with gilt gesso decorated having a brown velvet shaped matte. SIZE: 16″ x 15″. CONDITION: One small patch to reverse with minor inpainting, otherwise good. 9-92040 (1,000-1,500)
