SYLVESTER PHELPS HODGDON (American, 1830-1906) NEW HAMPSHIRE WATERFALL. Fine oil on canvas White Mountain type scene shows a small waterfall off a cascading brook into lower pool with rocks. Tall green trees, mountain slope in background under a blue and cloud sky. Signed lower left “S P Hodgdon 1882”. Phelps studied under Benjamin Champney and during this time period, exhibited at the Boston Art Club. Housed in a deep 5” gesso decorated period frame, several gesso chips. SIZE: 24” x 20”.
