DESIRABLE FOUR PIECE JOHN JELLIFF VICTORIAN PARLOR SUITE. This outstanding set features a large framed back sofa in three sections fitted with elaborate carved arms terminating in a carved bearded warrior’s head. The wood with ebony and burled inlay with incised carving and all over elaborate Victorian ornamentation. The matching armchair in very old needlepoint floral design, identically constructed with the same head, also has a matching pair of side chairs. Each with old needlepoint floral seats. Jelliff is noted for producing elaborate ornamental parlor suites such as this and was original from Newark, NJ. SIZE: Approximately 48” to the top of the back of the sofa, 71” at widest x 23” d. CONDITION: Piece is recently removed from a house which was regularly used for the past approximate 150 years, is in generally good condition with some imperfections. Some small veneer molding losses, generally however structurally sound and appears to be original. 9-97644 (4,500-6,500)
