ATTRIBUTED TO DAVID GILMOUR BLYTHE (American, 1815-1865 ) THE BEER DRINKER. Unsigned oil on canvas interior scene shows a man seated in side chair holding a newspaper in hands. He wears a brown coat and black hat. He looks left as a hand comes into the picture with a mug of beer. Cheese and crackers are served on a small plate. A piece of paper is attached to the back indicating artist and possible title from a catalog. Housed in a fine period fancy shell decorated gesso gold frame with an “Adolph Newman & Son” label. SIZE: 9-1/2” x 7-1/4”. CONDITION: New stretcher with complex metal turnbuckle device. Relined, very good. 9-97377 (3,000-5,000)
