*RARE SPECIAL ORDER DELUXE WINCHESTER MODEL ’94 CARBINE. Cal. 30 WCF (30-30). SN 897060. Very unusual and rare deluxe carbine with 20” rnd bbl, square base ivory bead front sight, button magazine, no provision for a rear seat and a locking Lyman tang sight. It has dark 3 to 4X American walnut wood with “H” style checkering and capped pistol grip stock with Winchester embossed shotgun hard rubber buttplate, which appears to be a replacement. The receiver is engraved in style “10” with a vignette of a standing elk on the left side instead of the usual deer with wide plain border around the vignette and flourishes of arabesque patterns with punch dot background in front and back. It has a straight line and wavelet border around the outer edges. The right side has flourishes of arabesque patterns in front and back of the loading gate opening with matching border. The top of the receiver and top tang, as well as the area around the serial number on the bottom have light flourishes. The proof mark on the frame is offset to accommodate the engraving. The current length of pull is about 13-1/4”. When the buttplate is removed, there is a series of small holes up the centerline and a plugged hole near the top. It appears that the stock may have had a recoil pad at one time which was subsequently removed and this modified hard rubber buttplate installed. Accompanied by a letter dated August 16, 1994, from the individual who sold it to Mr. Owens describing this carbine in great detail. CONDITION: As noted, very fine. Bbl retains 95-96% original bright blue with slight muzzle wear and a small scrape over the chamber area. Receiver retains about 90% original blue with a few light scratches and some thinning on the bottom and top. Lever retains 30-40% flaked blue with the balance light patina and the hammer 85-90% bright blue. Wood is sound with the buttstock having light touchup on both sides by the buttplate. Shows moderate wear with a gouge on the left comb and other light handling and use marks with a small gouge on the forearm, otherwise retains generous amounts of original oil finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-52557 JR303 (10,000-20,000)
