FLYING STEEPLECHASE HORSE WEATHERVANE ATTRIBUTED TO A. L. JEWELL & CO. The horse parallels the angled fence with front legs tucked underneath and the back legs almost straight out. A bulbous tail with serrated age man. Fence and center pole are mounted on a 3” flat copper horizontal bar which is rolled over a small steel rod. Three dimensional body with cast head and front legs. Very rare form in a desirable weathervane. PROVENANCE: Northeast Auctions Sale Lot 658, 11/6/93. SIZE: 30-1/2” total h; Horse is 15” h x 33-3/4” w. Bottom strap is 36” w. CONDITION: There are several layers of finish, the last being a bright gold which is only 15% present. There are layers including a yellow paint and green verdigris. Fence has a black over green verdigris with traces of yellow. Structurally very good. 9-28282 (25000-40000)
