*SPECTACULAR ENGRAVED TAKEDOWN DELUXE WINCHESTER MODEL 1894 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 32 WS. SN 309409. Spectacular rifle with 26″ oct to rnd bbl, 1/2 magazine, ivory bead Lyman hunting front sight, flat top rear sight and Lyman loop tang sight with large disc. It is fitted with close couple double-set triggers and has extremely fine beautifully grained walnut stock and forearm with “E” carving, capped pistol grip and hard rubber buttplate. The receiver is No. 5 engraved which consists of a large oval vignette on the left side with two running caribou in a woodland scene and two standing antelope in a prairie scene on the right side surrounded by maple leaf and vine motif. The engraving extends over the top and bottom of the receiver and on the top tang with some small flourishes on the takedown ring and the three top flats of the bbl over the chamber. There is a platinum line at the chamber end of the bbl. It is fitted with sling eyes in the stock and forend cap. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter fully identifying this rifle with all features as found. The letter also states “fancy catalogue / sited at 100 yards / mark bbl and sights” and indicates it was shipped March 13, 1908. The sling eyes are not mentioned but it is apparent that they are original to this rifle. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbl and magazine tube retain 96-97% strong bright original blue. Receiver and takedown ring retain about 95% dull original blue, thin on the bottom. Lever retains traces of case colors in the sheltered areas with the balance turned silver. Hammer retains most of its dark original case colors. Wood is sound with the checkering showing light wear and a few scattered handling and use marks and retains most of its original oil finish.
