ORIGINAL DAISY MAKEIG-JONES WATERCOLOR. Outstanding and rare watercolor depicts Elves in a Pine Tree of Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre fame. Beautifully detailed watercolor is signed in lower right with her monogram. On the reverse is a poem handwritten by Daisy Makeig-Jones which is a passage from a poem by William Allington entitled “From the Fairies” and reads “Down along the rocky shore, Some make their home, They live on crispy pancakes of yellow tide-foam; Some in the reeds of the black mountain-lake, with frogs for their watch-dogs, All night awake”. It is said that this painting and poem was given to the chief designer for Wedgwood by Daisy and descended in the Hodkiss Family until purchased by our consignor. Watercolor is housed in it’s original frame, however it has been reframed within the original frame in a beautiful carved and gilt contemporary frame. SIZE: Image: 8” x 5”.
