THEODORE ROUSSEAU (French, 1812-1867) SAILING OFF THE LOWLANDS. Oil on canvas scene shows two sailboats in calm water with low coastal foreground with small beach. Hills are seen in the distance under a white and gray cloud sky with bright spots. Signed lower left “Th. Rousseau”. Housed in a magnificent gesso decorated frame. Frame retaining a Holland Art Galleries New York label. Also a Preyer & Co., New York label. NOTE: We have been told that Michel Schulman has seen the painting about five years ago but to our knowledge a letter has not been written. We are also told that this painting was exhibited at Salander-Reilly Gallery. SIZE: 10-1/2″ x 18″. CONDITION: Some inpainting, very good. 9-92623 (20,000-30,000)
