HACKER (19th Century) BUSY SHIPPING LANE. Oil on canvas scene shows a large American ship of the line with two decks having cannon ports, two stacks at midpoint and three-masts fully rigged with sails out flying US flag. Eleven men are seen on deck and the ship comes toward viewer. Another ship is seen leaving with single deck gun emplacements flying American flag, single central stack and three-masts with half sails. Eighteen men aboard and a small vessel with four men is seen in foreground. Scene appears to be the entrance to the Mediterranean with Gibraltar visible. Signed lower right “Hacker”. Housed in a period gilt frame. A well done marine scene from the middle part of the 19th Century. SIZE: 24” x 36”. CONDITION: Relined, restored with inpainting. 9-73353 (7,000-10,000)
