RARE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1830 CADET MUSKET. Cal. 58. NSN. 40” rnd bbl. Bbl has a bayonet lug 1-1/4” from muzzle. Marked “SPRING / FIELD / 1830” vertically at rear of 5-3/8” lock. Eagle and “US” marking is in front of cock. The 1830 date is also on bbl tang. Standard proof marks and number “54” are at rear of bbl. Only 153 of these were made in longer length. Lockplate is marked “36” inside with “o” assembly mark on all parts except hammer, where mark has been obscured by pitting. Mainspring screw and rear lockplate screw appear to be replacements. CONDITION: Fine overall. Gray patina mixed with scattered light pitting on metal. Minor handling marks on wood. Edwards Collection 4-58428 FS120 (5,000-10,000)
