N.R. TYLER OVER/UNDER PERCUSSION RIFLE. Cal. 45-45. NSN. Very well made rifle with 32-1/2″ oct superposed bbls, both bbls rifled, with German silver front sight and fixed rear sight. The top flat is marked “N.R. TYLER / VIENNA O”. The bbls are held together with three dbl dovetails and have three brass guides on each side with one replacement ramrod and the other missing. It has a back action lock marked “WHITMORE WOLFF / DUEF– CO / PITTSBURGH PA”. The hammer and ignition system are most unusual in that the hammer has a dbl striker with a sliding bar for the lower striker to hit the nipple on the lower bbl. It has an iron serpentine trigger guard, dbl set triggers and a nicely figured walnut buttstock with simple 2-pc brass patchbox. The left side flat of the top bbl is stamped “–TLEY. NELSON & CO. CONDITION: Good. Iron retains a smooth even very dark brown patina with heavy pitting around the nipple areas. Stock has a crack at the receiver with chips around the lockplate, nicks & scratches. Mechanics are fine, strong dark bores. 4-54285 JR472 (400-700)
