*CASED WATSON BROTHERS BACK ACTION HAMMERLESS DOUBLE RIFLE. SN 13591. Cal. 303. 28″ bbls with pedestal based front sight with fine bead, and quarter rib 3-leaf express sight with one standing, and two folding rear. Top rib is engraved, “Watson Bros. 29 Old Bond Street, London.” Bbl flats stamped, “303 Nitro Proved.” Lower rib has two holes from missing sling swivel mount. Early hammerless back action has moderate foliate scroll engraving with, “Watson Bros.” engraved on center of each plate, and “Safe” in gold on extended top tang. Mounted in semi fancy walnut with checkered forend with front lever release, checkered pistol grip stock with engraved steel grip cap, cheek piece on left side, and smooth steel shotgun butt with sling swivel loop, and blank initial shield in toe line. Housed in brass cornered leather case with blue lining and makers label. Case is more recent than gun. CONDITION: Very fine as restored. Bbls retain 90-95% restored blue that is thinning, muzzle wear and the usual light minor nicks and dings. Receiver has 98-99% restored case colors with some minor light pitting finished over. Stocks are sound with minor light handling marks and a fine hand rubbed finish. The recut checkering is fine and crisp. Case is good with minor scuffs at corner, and an embossed F.M.C on top. Mechanics are crisp, and bore is bright with dark grooves. 4-32163 BDT158 (8,000-12,000)
