RARE RIGDON & ANSLEY CONVERSION CONFEDERATE REVOLVER. Cal. 38 RF. SN 1780. Confederate made dragoon style revolver in navy size with 8” oct to rnd bbl, small cone front sight with brass grip frame and 1-pc walnut grips. The top flat of the bbl is marked “CSA”. The cylinder is unfluted with 12 notches and has been converted, probably by a blacksmith, utilizing a forged in spacer ring after the rear of the cylinder had been trimmed away. The hammer nose has been altered with a firing pin installed. According to Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms” 5th Edition, there were only about 1,000 original revolvers produced in the period 1864-1865 in Augusta, Georgia. This revolver has a Colt style rammer latch and wedge. CONDITION: Good. All matching including the wedge. No original finish remains, being a medium to dark brown patina overall. Frame appears to have been filed at one time. Grip frame retains a nice even medium yellow patina and the grips show moderate wear with some original varnish still on the bottom of the butt and near the frame. Mechanics are fine with a strong-pitted bore. Wedge is a little loose. 4-52005 JR687 (12,500-17,500)
