AFTER JOHN WILLIAM GODWARD (British, 1861-1922) AN AMATEUR. Oil on canvas interior scene shows an elegant young woman seated on a blue cushion chair having a leopard skin covering. She wears a rose and magenta colored dress with blue sash. She holds a sketch of a statue on her knee and the statue sits on a marble slab with roses and bowl. The marble support is a white marble lion. She is seen against a white marble background. Unsigned. Housed in an antique gesso decorated wide frame with gilt liner. Canvas having a Winsor & Newton’s, London canvas stamp and there is a date on the canvas “1910”. SIZE: 20″ x 24″. CONDITION: Very good. 9-93092 (5,000-10,000)
