UNMARKED SMALL HALF STOCK PERCUSSION HUNTING RIFLE. Cal. 45. NSN. Small hunting rifle with 26″ oct bbl, fixed orig sights, with the lockplate marked “SPRATLEY” and Norfolk, Virginia. It is an old conversion from flint with dbl set triggers and has brass hardware with serpentine trigger guard, simple 2-pc patch box and crescent buttplate with short toeplate. It has a German silver squirrel inlaid on the cheek piece. The stock is nicely figured walnut with raised side panels and checkered straight wrist with iron forend cap and iron guide with brass nose pipe and a replacement ramrod. There are some initials scratched on the trigger bow. CONDITION: About good. Bbl is a medium to dark patina with fine pitting over most of the upper surface. Side of the hammer and around the muzzle has amateur punch decoration. Top tang screw is broken and it has a hairline back of the top tang. Wood retains most of an old refinish. Mechanics function well, strong bore with moderate pitting. 4-54942 JR378 (300-500)
