J. NOWOTNY HAMMER SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 2590. Cal. 16 gauge. 28-1/4″ bbl with flat rib, and single silver sighting bead. 2-1/2″ chambers, CYL/CYL choke, extractors, and double triggers. Top rib is engraved and inlaid in gold, “J. Nowotny In Prag.” There are gold game birds surrounded by foliate scroll over each chamber, and gold foliate scroll about 2″ down rib. The back action hammer gun with front under-lever is elaborately engraved and inlaid in gold with stags, dogs, pheasants, ducks, gold border, and foliate scroll. Mounted in a streaky piece of walnut with checkered forend, checkered horn opening lever, checkered straight grip stock with sculpted horn pistol grip, left side cheek piece, 14-1/4″ to checkered steel butt plate. Toe line with sling swivel to match sling swivel mounted on under-rib. Bore diameter: left -.677, right -.677. Bore restrictions: left (-.004), right -.000. Wall thickness: left -.024, right -.028. Drop at heel: N/A. Drop at comb: N/A. Weight: 6 lbs 8 oz. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbls show a fine dark brown Damascus pattern with a dent about half way on the left bbl, and some light scattered corrosion. Receiver is a blend of silver and dark gray showing off it’s fine flat gold inlays. Wood is solid but shows numerous nicks, dings, and scratches with worn and mostly flat checkering. Forend wood is well worn but solid. Horn opening lever has about a 2″ crack through it. Mechanics are good, and bores have scattered moderate pitting and the above mentioned dent in left bbl. 4-32087 BDT198 (3,000-5,000)
