WM. MOORE & GRAY DBL DAMASCUS 12GA HAMMER SHOTGUN. SN 2655. 29″ nicely figured Damascus bbls marked “WM. Moore & Gray. 43 Old Bond St. London. W” with doll’s-head extension. Bbls show 2-1/2″ 3 ton nitro proofs as well as older period proof marks and are proofed at .729. The unusual semi-clamshell action has about 50% coverage of very well-executed shaded scroll and has a top lever and purdy bolt for lockup. The locks are rebounding. The blued trigger guard shows 50% scroll engraving. The forend has a sugar tong-type fastener with 90% course checkering and a steel tip. The straight grip buttstock shows 14-1/4″ LOP over a 1/2″ wood extension with checkered butt, which is fitted to original curve cut for orig buttplate. LOP to old wood is 13-5/8″. Silver oval marked “PW” on bottom of stock. Buttstock exhibits same coarse checkering as forend. Bore diameter: right -.736, left – .732. Bore restrictions: right -.012, left -.008. Wall thickness: right -.021, left -.023. Drop at comb: 1-3/4″, drop at heel: 2-3/8″. Weight: 6lbs. 9.25oz. CONDITION: Gun is tight and on face. Top lever closes slightly left of center. Bbls show 95% of nicely colored re-brown. The engraving was not picked up before refinishing and is slightly worn from polishing. Bores are bright and shiny. There is a very slight, barely noticeable bulge in lower part of right bbl 8-1/2″ from breech. Action is mostly gray with strong traces of orig case color in protected areas. Lockplates have 30-40% orig case colors, mostly around area protected by hammers. Hammers are silvery with traces of color in protected areas. Top lever and trigger guard have been reblacked and show no wear to new finish. Stock has a few fairly deep dents on left side of buttstock and at top rear of the right side buttstock. Breechfaces are clean with no pitting, but with some slight discoloration on right side. Buttstock shows restored hand-rubbed oil finish and checkering has been recut. 4-33248 (4,500-7,500)
