*BOSS & CO. SIDELEVER SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN. SN 3971. Cal. 12ga. 30″ Whitworth steel bbls marked on rib “1” and “BOSS & CO. 73. ST.JAMES’S STREET. LONDON.” Right bbl is marked “Sir Joseph Whitworth’s” and left bbl is marked “Fluid pressed steel.” Bbls have Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers at .729. Older nitro proof marks are also present. The action shows extremely well executed scroll engraving at about 70% coverage. The back action sidelocks with bolstered tumblers are engraved “Boss & Co.” and also exhibit more of the same quality engraving; the tumbler ends are bolstered. Gun features dbl triggers and automatic safety with “Safe” inlaid in gold. Beautifully streaked Circassian straight grip walnut stock has LOP of 14-5/8″ over a 1/2″ lengthening piece with checkered butt. Orig wood has only been squared up and length is 14-1/16″ to where the orig steel buttplate was installed. Area at top of stock has inlaid piece to fill where the widow’s peak was. Forend has a lever release and is 90% checkered. Bore diameter: right -.732, left -.734. Bore restrictions: right -.005, left -.011. Wall thickness: right -.023, left -.020. Drop at comb: 1-1/2″, drop at heel: 1-3/4″. Weight:6lbs. 5.1oz. CONDITION: Bores are bright and shiny. Action is tight and bbls are very slightly off face with a gap at the right breech. Ejectors are somewhat out of time. Bbls show 95% of a good quality reblack with a little bit of peppery rust and a couple of handling marks. The engraving was picked up before bbls were refinished and is nice and sharp. The action is silver. The side lever, safety lever, and trigger guard show most of restored charcoal blue. Trigger guard shows some striations and metal loss from handling which was not cleaned up before bluing. Stock has most of good quality varnish refinish, recut checkering, and a vacant silver oval. Forend checkering has been recut and some areas of wood missing in front of ejectors near the forend iron. The screws have been refire blued. 4-33245 (16,000-20,000)
