*CASED J. PURDEY & SONS SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 11772. Cal. 12 gauge. 30″ bbls with tapered concave rib, single silver sighting bead, 2-1/2″ chambers, CYL/IMP.CYL, extractors, and double triggers. Rib is engraved, “J. Purdey & Sons. Audley House, South Audley Street, London, England. Made of Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Fluid Pressed Steel.” Receiver is engraved in typical Purdey fashion with floral bouquets and tight foliate arabesque scroll with, “J. Purdey & Sons” on lower center of both plates and, “Purdey’s Patent” on bottom. Mounted with nicely figured walnut, checkered splinter forend with engraved metal insert and push button release, checkered straight grip stock with dropper points, 14″ to checkered butt. Bore diameter: left .733, right .734. Bore restriction: left .018, right .000. Wall thickness: left .030, right .025. Drop at heel: 2″. Drop at comb: 1-1/4″ Weight: 6 lbs 7 oz. Housed in an open leather case with makers label, accessories, and loading tools. CONDITION: Badly in need of restoration. Bbl finish is a dark splotchy gray/brown patina with quite a bit of surface corrosion. Bottom of right bbl has 1/4″ diameter rust spot. Ribs seem to be solid. Receiver is a dark gray/patina color with some rust and a badly deteriorated top tang at safety area. Trigger guard has an area of deep pitting near the front screw. Stock is well worn but solid with numerous nicks, dings, a small crack along trigger plate behind trigger guard, and a crack coming off from the top tang. Forend is also well worn with a rusted front tip insert with quite worn checkering. Mechanics are in need of some help as safety doesn’t work, and bbls show a fair degree of pitting, some being rather deep. 4-32084 BDT237 (3,000-5,000)
