*JAMES PURDEY & SONS BEESLEY PATENT SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR SHOTGUN WITH CASE. SN 13555. Cal. 12ga. 30″ bbls marked on left bbl “J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET, LONDON.” and on right bbl, “MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH’S FLUID-PRESSED STEEL.” Bbls renitro-proofed in London for 2-1/2″ chambers at .729 and .729. The action has house style very well executed bouquet and scroll engraving, probably by J. Lucas. The lockplates are marked “J PURDEY & SONS.” and bottom of action is marked “PURDEY’S PATENT”. Top lever is marked “PATENT.” Dbl triggers and automatic safety with “SAFE” inlaid in gold. The trigger guard has about 50% coverage of English scroll engraving with SN 13555. The slightly figured, straight grip, European walnut stock measures 14-1/8″ over checkered wood butt with a vacant silver oval on bottom. The splinter forend has Anson release and has standard checkering. Bore diameter: right -.734, left -.734. Bore restrictions: right -.012, left -.035. Wall thickness: right -.026, left -.028. Drop at comb: 1-3/8″, drop at heel: 1-7/8″. Weight:6lbs. 14oz. Gun comes in period oak and leather case with brass corners, central brass medallion, with James Purdey & Sons label, orig maroon cloth interior, and a set of unmarked snap caps. CONDITION: Gun is tight and on face. Ejectors are in time. Bbls show a very good quality reblack with engraving just slightly worn. Bores are bright and shiny with no visible dents or imperfections. Action is silver colored with slight discoloration on bottom and very slight pinprick frosting all over. Stocks are sound and refinished with hand-rubbed oil finish. Checkering has been recut a long time ago. Wood is slightly under metal. Trigger guard, triggerplate, top lever, forend iron and forend tip show most of their reblue with slight wear on thumbpiece and grip area. Two lock screws are replacements. Other screws show use. Case leather is in very good plus condition, straps and handle are intact. 4-32073 MGM20 (14,000-18,000)
