H.K. (American, First half of the 20th Century) “CHEER UP CHEER UP CHEER UP POOR DEVIL. WE AR GOING TO HAVE COAL YET”. Pencil drawn political cartoon shows Teddy Roosevelt standing holding a lump of coal in front of a despondent devil seated in a chair wrapped in a blanket warming his feet in a tub of water. Roosevelt’s hat is marked “Teddy” and a large bottle has a label “Coal Barons Coneer Drops”. Signed lower right “H.K.”. A cutout picture of Herman Kruschke in the lower left which may or may not be the artist. Shrink wrapped against a white foam core backing. SIZE: 22” x 28”.
