*PAIR OF E.J. CHURCHILL XXV PREMIERE PINLESS SIDELOCK EJECTOR GUNS WITH EXTRA 2 PAIRS OF BBLS. SN 7395,7395a, 7396, 7396b. Cal. 12ga. Unusual pair of guns made for philanthropist Mr. Joseph M. Bryan, Esq. of Greensboro, NC. Both guns have 25″ bbls marked “EJ Churchill Gunmakers Limited, Orange Street, Leicester Square, London” and marked in gold “XXV” and “1” “2,” respectively. The other sets of bbls are also 25″ and marked “S1” (Skeet)(SN 7395a) and “D2” (Ducks)(SN 7396B) and “XXV” in gold. All bbls have typical Churchill ribs and have nicely executed triangles of scroll engraving which extend about 1″ from breeches. Actions are also marked “E.J. Churchill” on the lock plates and have about 90% coverage of finely executed English scroll engraving. The bottoms of the actions are marked “Premiere Finest Quality.” Forend irons are marked “1” and “2,” respectively, in gold, as are the top levers. “Safe” is engraved in raised gold letters. The trigger guards are dbl beaded and show about 80% fine scroll engraving. Guns have dbl triggers and original beaver tail fore ends. Straight grip stocks are 15″ over checkered wood butts and have gold ovals marked “JMB.” Gun 1: Drop at comb: 1-1/2″, drop at heel: 2-1/8″. Weight:6lbs. 3.5oz. Gun 2: Drop at comb: 1-3/8″, drop at heel: 2″. Weight:6lbs 3.8oz. Gun 1 has relatively plain European walnut. Gun 2 has nicely figured, contrasting European walnut. All bbls are marked “Vickers N Steel” and are proofed for 3-1/4 tons at .729 and have 2-3/4″ chambers. Bbls set 1, Bore diameter: right -.730, left -.729. Bore restrictions: right -.015, left -.015. Wall thickness: right -.031, left -.028. Bbls set S1: Bore diameter: right -.731, left – .731. Bore restrictions: right -.011, left -.011. Wall thickness: right -.030, left -.027. Bbls set 2: Bore diameter: right -.733, left -.729. Bore restrictions: right -.015, left -.013. Wall thickness: right -.030, left -.027. Bbls set D2: Bore diameter: right -.729, left -.729. Bore restrictions: right -.039, left -.038. Wall thickness: right -.030, left -.030. Guns are in a leather 2-gun toe-under case with dividing partition that has a Churchill label, leather corners, dbl latches, and newer brass plate on top. There are two modern snap caps in the case. Extra bbls are in another leather toe-under case with Churchill label, leather corners, dbl locks, and brass plate on top. Both cases are in very good condition with usual wear and handling marks. The guns come with copy of ledger page from Churchill, with specifications, an article about Mr. Joseph M. Bryan, and an article about Robert Churchill and the XXV guns. CONDITION: All bbl sets are excellent as refinished with no physical blemishes. Bores are bright and shiny. Stocks show all of professionally restored finish with minor blemishes under the finish. Checkering has been recut. The actions show most of quality re-polish and re-case color with some minor pitting on the outside of the breech face of Gun 1. Top levers, safeties, and trigger guards show all of their restored blue finish. The forend of Gun 2 shows wood repairs around ejectors and on right side of forend iron.
