AMERICAN KNIGHT’S HEAD POMMEL SILVER HILTED SWORD. Extremely well articulated knight’s head pommel with a four slot silver guard. Grip is ebony or black horn. The single fullered blade is blued with gilt decoration. Decoration consists of a spray of arms, an American eagle with a banner in his beak reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM” as well as foliated sprays. Blade is marked “L. WELLS NEW YORK WARRANTED”. The black leather scabbard has silver mounts on the top and bottom. The top mount has both a ring and stud mount. SIZE: Blade is 27-3/4″, overall is 34-1/2″. CONDITION: The knight’s head pommel is a striking example with no visible flaws. Guard and grip are both in excellent condition. Most of the blue has faded from the blade, but the gilt engraving is still quite strong. The blade itself has a smooth gray patina with no signs of pitting. The silver top mount of the scabbard shows minor dings from use but is intact and strong. The silver tip is split to 1 1/2″ from the base and the bottom of the tip is missing. The leather is solid but has creases to the leather. The seam is strong, the leather has been refinished but is quite pleasing to the eye. 4-48998 BF12 (5,000-6,000)
