PATTERN 1822 BRITISH TYPE U.S. CAVALRY SABER. An iron hilted saber with wire bound shark skin grip profusely etched quill back blade marked “HORSTMANN & SONS PHILADELPHIA”. Complete with iron scabbard. See Thillmann pages 205-212 for similar examples. Associated with the Philadelphia City Troop. SIZE: Blade is 34-7/8″, overall is 40-1/8″. CONDITION: Iron has overall brown patina, blade is in extraordinary condition for its age with only the faintest wear to the blade. Etching is near mint. 4-48988 BF2 (1,800-2,200)
