ENGLISH SILVER HILT SWORD BY THURKLE. Fine English silver hilt marked “FT” for Francis Thurkle, together with London proof marks and the owner’s initials “JJ” under the guard. Silver four slot guard with melon shaped reeded pommel. Silver wire and tape wrapped hilt. Single fuller, engraved blade. SIZE: Blade is 32-1/4″, overall is 38-1/4″. CONDITION: Hilt and pommel are in good condition with only a few minor bends to the hilt. Silver wire wrap is complete however, the top third of the silver tape, between the braided wires is missing. The balance of the tape is intact and solid. Blade has overall mottled gray patina. Blade is engraved with a crown, “GR” and military trophies. Blade is worn so as to make the engraving difficult to readily see but nonetheless is present and legible. 4-48997 BF11 (1,800-2,200)
