TWO COLLAGE PAINTINGS OF UNCLE SAM AND PICKWICK TYPE ENGLISH GENTLEMAN. Classic Uncle Sam figure is standing with long hair, beard and top coat, brown pants and brown boots. He holds his top hat in his left hand down and gestures with his right hand. He is facing right. The figure is comprised of a cutout of his clothing with added painted features. The cutout may be of painted birch bark or heavy paper. In pencil on back of board “Uncle Sam”. Other of similar composition shows a barrel chested English man with boots, hat and waistcoat. He looks upwards and to the left apparently ignoring the world. Placed side by side these two images portray a gesturing U.S. of either friendship or help and the snobbery of the British. Figures stand against a light grayish background and are both framed with gold mattes and different period frames. SIGHT SIZE: 10” x 7-1/2”. CONDITION: 9-29374 (2000-3000)
