FREDERICK STUART CHURCH (American, 1842-1924) “FLAMINGOES”. Outstanding oil on canvas scene shows a young maiden at the edge of water seated on a grassy bank dipping her toe into the water. She arranges flowers in her hair as two pink flamingos stand beside her in the water. The color of the flamingos and her blue sheer dress reflects in the water while flowers and a green canopy surround the backdrop. Signed lower right “FS Church” with copyright symbol and “N.Y. 1917”. Housed in a fine gesso decorated gilt frame with linen liner. REFERENCE: This painting was illustrated on a full page and numbered “141” in the Winter Exhibition of 1917 catalog at the National Academy of Design. A photocopy of the page and cover accompany the painting. SIZE: 34″ x 24″. CONDITION: Very good with scattered inpainting. 9-92639 (25,000-35,000)
